     Julian Assange and Wikileaks have been all over the news lately due to the massive leaks of U.S. Intelligence information by his organization as well as his court case involving his alleged rape of two women.  Although Assange has been diligently hacking since the 90's, why is it now (astrologically speaking) that he comes under so much scrutiny?  How is it that he is now inspiring droves of hacker activists to support him both in person and via their hacking abilities?
    Let's look at his birth chart as well as current transits to his chart to see how we can astrological find the answers to these questions.  I would specifically like to highlight the near Kite Formation in his chart formed between Neptune/Jupiter in sextile to Pluto which sextiles Mercury which in turn connects back to Neptune/Jupiter via trine.  This forms the "arrow end" of what astrologers call a "Kite Formation."  If there were a planet in opposition to Pluto, we would have a complete Kite Formation here, with the opposing planet(s) propelling the energy of the Kite into Pluto in Assange's 11th House.  But even though the Kite does not form completely in Assange's natal chart, it CAN be completed momentarily by transits opposing his natal Pluto.  So, for instance, every month Assange will experience a moon opposition to Pluto which will spark these innate energies.  Transits of Mercury, Venus, and Mars will do the same when they transit the final degrees of Pisces (which opposes Assange's natal Pluto placement at the end degrees of Virgo).
    These quicker moving planets will have their impact, and continually keep the combined energies of his half-kite alive, but slower-moving, "generational" planets such as Uranus, Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto will have even greater impact.  It just so happens that Jupiter and Uranus are transiting that exact spot in Assange's chart. 
    To better understand what this means, let's examine what the natal near-Kite Formation means.  We have Jupiter and Neptune retrograde in the first house.  Jupiter is the freedom-fighter, interested in justice and also in expansion of anything it touches.  Neptune is in touch with the collective unconscious, it is hard to pin down, ephemeral, and sometimes even sneaky and definitely interested in remaining unseen.  As these planets are together in Assange's 1st House of outward identity, he projects himself as a sly freedom-fighter.  This is, in fact, more or less how he publically states the aims of Wikileaks in the Wikileaks Manifesto.
    Next, we have Pluto in Virgo in the 11th House.  Pluto, planet of difficult-but-necessary transformation, of forcing authenticity, of uncovering hidden truths, is in Virgo, the sign of meticulous fact-finding and communication.  This was a generational placement in place at the time of Assange's birth, but it is personal to him both in the way that it contacts his natal Mercury and in the way that it appears in his 11th House.  Here in the 11th, this uncovering of hidden agendas and journalistic fact-finding expresses itself in the way of organizational/group involvement, democracy, and use of the most vast information network available to us at this time in human history: the internet.
    Finally, his Mercury (planet of communication and intelligence) is in Cancer in the 9th House.  Mercury here takes information personally, Cancer being sensitive, and so when information from nations (countries and nation-states also being Cancerian) are withheld, Mercury in Cancer takes this personally as well.  In the 9th House, Mercury has a strong sense of justice and philosophy (including ethics). Connect this Mercury with Pluto and Uranus/Neptune and you have the beginnings of a personality that would become the Julian Assange we know of today.
    So when Jupiter/Uranus complete his Kite Formation, the freedom-fighting, expansive, justice-oriented Jupiter and the humanitarian, progressive, scientific, revolutionary Uranus propel the energies of this Kite Formation into the Pluto placement in Virgo in the 11th.  In the 11th House, Assange has gained a vast network of supporters who he has never met (which is very 11th House and Uranian in nature) helping him by disabling the websites of companies who they feel have wronged Assange.  He may, in fact, have launched the idea of (or even the reality of) the first "Cyber War."
    And while most of you who have found this entry were probably interested primarily into Assange's astrological chart and transits, I also want to note here that everyone can use this concept of a transit to a near-Kite (especially when the transiting planet forms the opposition, as do Jupiter/Uranus to Assange's chart) when looking at their own charts.  What to expect from such a transit depends on the individual planets and placements involved, but the transit of an opposing planet that completes a Kite formation will propel the energy of the formation into the natal planet it opposes.  Look to that planet, its sign and house to get a handle on what to expect from such a transit.
