Yoga teachers instruct you to go back to child’s pose at any moment when you are overwhelmed by the practice. Today my spirit guides used this as a metaphor to help me understand the importance of going back to a calm and serene mind when equally overwhelmed by a situation. “The 2 of Swords is your child’s pose,” they said.

 from the Spiral Tarot

Conflict with someone? Getting into a perfectionist mindset? Just go back to the calm and empty mental space represented by the 2 of Swords. My usual go-to is to overthink and over-analyze a perplexing situation, thinking that through mental prowess I can make an unwanted experience bend to my will and become something that I can understand and therefore overcome (or at least feel better about).

My spirit guides have a better idea. Just stop thinking about it completely! Mentally disengage. In fact, this lesson is important enough for me that the 2 of Swords was my 2022 Card of the Year (meaning, at the beginning of the year I pulled one card to represent the primary energy for the year-to-come, and it was the 2 of Swords).

It’s nice to be a third of the way through the year now and still mining the meaning of this card in such a tangibly useful way. Just stop thinking about the issue! Do the opposite of what you normally do, which is to over-analyze.

It’s not to say that mental analysis isn’t helpful… but I am already seeing the benefit of clearing out the mind more regularly and mentally disengaging vs. going into mental overdrive. I’m looking forward to seeing how much further this practice can take me in both my personal growth and psychic growth. Perhaps it will benefit me most in emotional equilibrium.
