Prince William will be getting married to Kate Middleton on April 29th of this year. Given the fact that student protesters recently egged and harassed Prince Charles and Camilla over rising costs of tuition, and the fact that the royal family has been questioned as well about the expense of an elaborate royal wedding at a time when many British citizens are suffering a great deal financially, I wondered if there might be protests at William’s wedding (especially with social reformer Uranus entering Aries a few weeks before the wedding takes place). I’m not especially good at predictive astrology, so I’m still up in the air about whether or not there will be protests,* but in looking at Prince William’s natal chart looking for those answers, I was intrigued to see how strongly highlighted Chiron is in his chart.

When William was born there was a yod configuration happening in which Neptune in Sagittarius and Pluto in Libra were sextiling each other while each forming an inconjunct aspect to Chiron. I’ve seen this in another chart as well—the yod aspect was in orb between May and November of 1981 and May to December 1982, so the yod formed by this planets shows up in many peoples’ charts, but in William’s case his natal Venus is also tightly conjunct Chiron, which makes the yod highly personal for him. With Chiron at 25° 17’ Taurus and Venus at 25° 40’ Taurus, it is the tightest aspect in his chart.

This tells us that Will’s Chirotic wounding has been caused by relationships (perhaps to a large degree by the very public failing of his parents’ relationship). Venus is also about satisfying the needs of others, of understanding “self” in relation to “other.” An unbalanced Venus can be prone to either expect others to cater to their needs or to sacrifice their own needs in order to support other people. Chiron/Venus are in the 5th showing these wounds are tied to childhood and self-expression. Building healthy, harmonious, comfortable (Taurus) relationships that allow William to fully express his own identity without squelching others’ identities will be very healing for William.

Pluto and Neptune are highlighting this Chirotic need, with Pluto in Libra in the 9th House and Neptune in Sagittarius in the 12th conjunct the ascendant. Pluto shows his Chirotic need to form psychologically healthy relationships that allow him to explore and understand other people’s cultures and philosophies. Neptune shows a Chirotic need to intuitively understand both is own and other people’s unexpressed needs so that he can fulfill them in some way. It also shows a need to be compassionate for other people’s belief systems, cultures, etc. In this lifetime he is charged with learning how not to prioritize his own identity over the identities of the multitude of other people in the world.

That said with a Chirotic Venus in his chart, he has the potential through his relationship with and upcoming marriage to Kate Middleton to tap into a deep reservoir of healing and self-healing ability. With Venus’ involvement with Chiron in Will’s chart, let’s look also to his 7th house cusp to understand how relationships function for him. On Will’s descendant are the Sun and Moon conjunct in Cancer. His north node shares the 7th House Cancer with the Sun and Moon as well, highlighting again that learning to relate to others in balanced healthy ways will be very constructive for William. Sun and Moon are together, forming a New Moon. This wasn’t just any new moon though, because William was born during a solar eclipse in which the Sun’s light was blocked by the Moon. I always think a solar eclipse is symbolic of the feminine, unseen, emotionally, intuitively-oriented Moon part of our collective psyche both merging with the expressive, masculine, rational, logically-oriented Sun self. It is as if the Moon is saying, “It’s my time. I want to be known and highly expressed right now.” Doesn’t this seem to resonate with William’s parents’ relationship? Diana needed to shine, and though her own light was overshadowed by royal expectations and her husband’s lineage, she found a way to be herself anyway. William’s chart shows how he has absorbed those energies, a suppressed Sun and a highly influential Moon (taking residence in the Moon’s own sign, to boot, where she is strongest).

The relationships he will attract to him are ones that carry this ecliptic theme, that help him to understand the balance between his Lunar inner-world and the Solar outer expression of it. Notably, Kate Middleton was born during a lunar eclipse! Her Moon is also in Cancer, conjunct William’s own Sun/Moon conjunction, and so naturally her feminine, lunar identity is appealing to him. He relates to her well, she helps him to understand his own inner world. In other words, he understands himself through Middleton, who serves as a lunar mirror to him. With their Suns in opposing signs, she also serves as a Solar Mirror.

Middleton’s Sun also forms a very tight trine aspect to her natal Chiron. She will be very helpful to him in better understanding self-expression when it comes to relationships (and likely already has been helpful in this way). Their nodes are also conjunct in Cancer, so they are both here to better understand emotional/familial roots. They will probably benefit from starting their own family as well. Some people think that the chart for their wedding day indicates a highly strained marriage, but I think there is enormous potential for mutual healing between the two, and that shows that there is definitely a purpose in their coming together, regardless of what the future may ultimately hold for their relationship in this incarnation.

*The wedding chart (without a known time) for April 29, 2011 does show a great deal of tension with a highly activated t-square between Uranus, Saturn and Pluto. This may or may not indicate protests, but as the t-square forms a grand cross with Will’s natal Sun/Moon conjunction, it certainly shows that the wedding will have an enormous impact on him (which of course is unsurprising).
