I would like to revisit the horary chart that I interpreted a week or so ago in which I asked, “Will the Egyptian protesters be successful in overthrowing their government?” The implication of this question is that a successful overthrow of the current government involves a successful implementation of a new one, and all of that should be shown by the horary chart. The previous entry on this chart is HERE. You can also view the horary chart HERE at my website.

After talking to some more horary-oriented astrologers (people who work with horary more often and in more depth than I ever do!) over at the Skyscript.co.uk horary forums, I’ve decided to look at the chart a little differently than before.

First, before I get into the horary jargon and lingo, I’d like to give an overview of the general situation and future as indicated by the horary chart, after which I’ll explain how I came to these conclusions:

Horary Predictions for Egypt

Point 1: First, the protesters are very strong and determined. The chart shows this, and it can be verified by what we see actually happening in the streets of Cairo and Alexandria.

Point 2: The protesters have already essentially taken control of the country, and although he is resisting doing so, Mubarak will eventually resign gracefully.

Point 3: There is more than likely going to be a charismatic leader rising up in the interests of the protesters. This person will have the backing of the Egyptian army, and in fact this leader and the army both gain tremendous power in their alliance with each other. This charismatic leader (or potential leader) does support the protesters and will be willing to enact humanitarian changes in Egypt, but there is something about this leader that is suspicious, and they may not be trusted by at least a portion of protesters. There could be questionable motivations behind their attempts to direct the peoples’ movement.

Part 4: The future government of Egypt will not come about easily and may involve suspicious power grabs. Also, Mubarak does seem to come out of this unscathed and protected.

How I’ve Come to these Conclusions

Point 1: First, the protesters are very strong and determined. The chart shows this, and it can be verified by what we see actually happening in the streets of Cairo and Alexandria.

After talking to horary astrologers over at Skyscript (you can read the forum discussion I had with them HERE) I agreed with several of them that Mercury in Capricorn (ruler of the 10th house of the chart) should signify Mubarak and that the protesters should be signified by Jupiter in Aries (the turned 7th House from the 10th, i.e., the enemies/overthrowers of Mubarak). As my astrologer friend Tanit has noted, the signifiers in an horary chart always need to make sense characteristically. In my previous examination of this chart, I had given Mercury in Capricorn as the significator of both Mubarak and the protesters, as it rules both the 10th and the 1st. I had seen other horary astrologers use the 1st house to find the significator of a person/entity for whom they were asking a question, but in this case, Mercury in Capricorn does not express at all the revolutionary spirit of the protesters. Mercury certainly does work as the significator of Mubarak, however. Mercury in Capricorn indicates someone of conservative thinking. Mercury often signifies thieves, and this is certainly the picture we are getting of him: a person in leadership who uses sly/sneaky/underhanded tactics to maintain control, personal wealth, and power. In fact, Mercury in Capricorn can very well be someone who is very controlling and authoritative about communications, and we see that in the way Mubarak has shut down internet access, cellphone communication, etc. in his attempt to control the protesters.

Likewise, Jupiter in Aries represents the courageous, spontaneous show of freedom-fighting shown by the protesters. There is a certain joy and exuberance that we also see in the spirit of protesters. They seem joyful at the power they’ve gained over a regime that they have long hated. The fact that the protests began around the time Jupiter was entering Aries is also relevant for using Jupiter as their significator.

As in my previous reading of this chart, we also see the Moon in Sagittarius as representing the protesters (since the Moon is always a secondary significator of the person/entity in question). The Moon is right on fixed star Antares, and the conjunction of the moon with Antares is associated with popular uprisings, so we can see the revolutionary spirit very strongly here with the Moon’s placement. I want to highlight the conjunction with Antares as being especially important. The chances of my posing this question at the very moment the Moon was in alignment with Antares are extremely slim. Antares is a royal star and gives the Moon (and thus the protesters) tremendous strength. What we see in the combination of Jupiter in Aries and Moon in Sagittarius (on Antares) as the significator of the protesters is an intense bravery and drive to achieve justice. A fighting determination is very strong here. This is not an energy that will rest until it gets what it wants.

With Jupiter bringing forth the energy of its recent sign Pisces (and its conjunction with Uranus) into the sign of Aries with it, we also see how this movement comes out of a strong sense of compassion. Jupiter is very strong in Pisces, where its intention for justice and ethical philosophical approach to life(which had been paired with Uranus’ desire for democracy and collective, humanitarian ideals) is strengthened by the compassionate understanding nature of the sign Pisces. With Jupiter just barely into Aries, it still carries with it that Piscean compassion and Uranian insight into collective emotional/material needs. Though there have been some reports of looting and violence (which is one way of expressing Uranian/Jupiterian rebellion), overall the interaction of the protesters with each other seems very supportive. People are camping out together in the city of Cairo, realizing their collective strength is needed in order to achieve their altruistic ends.

Point 2: The protesters have already essentially taken control of the country, and although he is resisting doing so, Mubarak will eventually resign gracefully.

The 10th house from Mubarak’s “turned” 1st House is the chart’s 7th House. That is where Jupiter is taking up residence. In other words, the protesters are showing up as having 10th house leadership and control over Mubarak. This supports my first claim that the protesters have already essentially taken control of the country. We don’t just see this in the chart though, we also see it in the situation in Egypt as it is actually happening. Already Mubarak’s son and other government officials have stepped down, showing the tremendous control that the protesters have.

Mubarak has not yet stepped down (at the writing of this), but I believe strongly that he will. Mercury represents Mubarak, and it also symbolizes the end of Mubarak’s regime (4th from the 10th) and the sabian symbol for the degree at which he resides is “By Accepting Defeat Gracefully, a General Reveals Nobility of Character.” As he symbolizes his own ending, he will not be taken down by anyone else but by his own choice. I highly doubt Mubarak’s significator would show up in correlation with this sabian symbol if it did not indicate that he would indeed step down from power. Mercury is also void of course and is peregrine—an horary term meaning it has no strength—showing Mubarak basically powerless to invoke any positive change for his situation. He is separating from a square with Saturn, and I think Saturn may represent the new government to take effect after Mubarak’s regime has been sunk (I’ll talk more about that later), so his ability to frustrate or prevent that new government from forming has diminished (shown by the fact that this is a separating aspect).

I think the Sun might represent a charismatic leader who has yet to become known. Right now this is a popular uprising not led by any specific group or party, but there will eventually be someone taking the lead. The Sun with Mars in Aquarius does seem to indicate a possible future leader supported by the army, and also recently was in sextile with the Moon. The Sun and Mars are also in the 8th house from the 10th (the death or end of Mubarak's regime). The Sun exalts the protesters (Jupiter in Aries).

Mars in Aquarius is ruler of the 6th from the 10th (army of Mubarak), and Mars is also an aggressive militaristic planet, often used to signify military forces in horary charts. In the sign of Aquarius, and in a very recent sextiles from the Moon (which represents the uprising people of Egypt), this signifier seems to correlate to the events we have already seen unfolding in Egypt, where the army has had a great deal of favor with the protesters and has not enforced any actions against them (such as the curfew that has been imposed and continuously disobeyed).

We can also see that the army does not seem willing to harm Mubarak, because Mars exalts Mercury in Capricorn (Mubarak’s signifier). So the army will not be used to overthrow Mubarak. This reinforces what I said earlier, that Mubarak will step down of his own accord.

When the Sun is conjunct another planet, it holds a great deal of control over that planet, rendering that planet immobile. Some horary astrologers say that since the Sun and Mars are both hot, fiery planets, the Sun has a beneficial impact on Mars, however, rather than a debilitating one. So if the Sun does represent an upcoming leader, that person may have a leadership position in the army or be associated with the army in some way already, or if not, both the leader and the army will be strengthened by their alliance. This beneficent effect increases when the Sun and Mars are exactly conjunct at 17 degrees Aquarius, when the Sun is said to be in cazimi and gives strength and protection to the planet it conjuncts.

We can see that the protesters have support for this potential leader (and for the army) by the Moon’s separating sextiles to them. The Moon (secondary sig for the protesters) translated light from Jupiter (primary sig for the protesters) to Sun/Mars in making this sextiles. So there is popular support for this person to take leadership. Moon’s next applying aspect is a sextile to Saturn in Libra, and so the Moon also translates light from Sun/Mars (leader/army) to Saturn, which I think may be the future government of Egypt.

Part 4: The future government of Egypt will not come about easily, the emerging leader I mentioned before will likely not actually lead this new Egyptian government, and this government (in its formative process) may involve suspicious power grabs. Also, Mubarak does seem to come out of this unscathed and protected.

While there will be popular support for both this potential leader and the army, and for a forthcoming new government, there are still reasons to think that the transition of power will not be handled entirely altruistically or easily. What is most disconcerting to me are the sabian symbols for Sun and Mars as they move toward an exact conjunction with each other at 17 Aquarius, which is the degree at which they will also perfect their trine aspect to Saturn at 17 Libra. This is how the sabian symbols progress for the shared degrees of Sun/Mars:

  14-15 deg Aquarius

Two Lovebirds Sitting On A Fence And Singing Happily

  15-16 deg Aquarius

A Big Businessman At His Desk

  16-17 deg Aquarius

A Watchdog Stands Guard, Protecting His Master And His Possessions

  17-18 deg Aquarius

A Man's Secret Motives Are Being Publicly Unmasked

Some people in Egypt even now do not trust that the people in official positions within the Egyptian army support the protesters, even though the actual soldiers on the streets of Cairo are displaying support of the protests. As an example of this feeling, here is a statement just put out by the Revolutionary Socialists of Egypt. I am partially quoting them below:

Everyone asks: “Is the army with the people or against them?”. The army is not a single block. The interests of soldiers and junior officers are the same as the interests of the masses. But the senior officers are Mubarak’s men, chosen carefully to protect his regime of corruption, wealth and tyranny. It is an integral part of the system.

This army is no longer the people’s army. This army is not the one which defeated the Zionist enemy in October 73. This army is closely associated with America and Israel. Its role is to protect Israel, not the people. Yes we want to win the soldiers for the revolution. But we must not be fooled by slogans that ‘the army is on our side’. The army will either suppress the demonstrations directly, or restructure the police to play this role.

We also know that the Muslim Brotherhood is the most popular of the opposition groups in Egypt today. This Sun-signified emerging leader may be from the Muslim Brotherhood, especially if you take into account this interview about the Brotherhood that depicts their bourgeois aspirations.

As I'll explain in more detail below, I view Saturn as representing the forthcoming government of Egypt, and Saturn is in a sign that is extremely detrimental to both the Sun (emerging leader) and Mars (Egyptian army). So even if an emerging charismatic leader helps lead the way to a new government, it doesn't look like they themselves come to power.

As I said before, I think Saturn represents probable new government for Egypt, and I think so because the 4th (representing the end or culmination of a matter) of the 11th (representing wishes) turned house of the protesters is ruled by Saturn. Therefore Saturn represents the culmination of the protesters collective wishes. Saturn in Libra is promising in that it is a stable planet in a sign of fairness and harmony. It is also in the sign of its exaltation, and so if this is the new government, it shows strength that you might not expect from a revolutionary government taking power. The sign Libra also shows benevolence, fairness, and peace(!). What’s interesting again though is that Saturn is giving power to Mubarak here by strong essential dignity. This could mean that the new government refuses to entirely strip Mubarak of his power or his tremendous wealth.

But we can also see that Saturn has just turned retrograde and is moving very slowly. It will retrograde all the way back to 10 degrees of Libra before turning direct again. Of course, as is the way with horary and everything, there are multiple ways of looking at the significance of retrograde planets in a chart. According to William Lilly (an horary astrologer from the 1600’s who is often referenced by horary astrologers today), “When the Moon applies to a good aspect of a Retrograde Planet, it brings the matter to an end one way or another speedily, and when least suspected .” This is because both the Moon and the retrograde planet (the Moon in this case) are mutually applying to aspect each other, showing that both parties want to make a connection with each other. Saturn’s nature is not quick however. Saturn builds securely, not necessarily hurriedly. So we’ll see. I’m not making a call about how soon this new government will come about—timing is difficult to predict in horary or any form of divination really, but Saturn does look strong and has support from many parties (shown in the chart by planets applying to Saturn in sextiles and trine). Lots of people want this new government to come about, specifically a peaceful, stable government as implied by Saturn in Libra.

We’ll see what happens! I trust the truth of this horary chart, and I trust my interpretation of it about 85%. ;) It will be interesting to re-read it in hindsight after the fact. I hope I will be re-reading this chart in a future that involves a fair and just government for the Egyptian people.
